Sounds great to me!

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below..

   A. Two Six-year Senate terms
   B. Six Two-year House terms
   C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2.  No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.
All future funds flow into the Social Security system, & Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates
in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made these contracts for themselves.

The ignorance of the people who wrote this, in my opinion, is a greater danger to the future of this country, than the presence of a devout Muslim on some advisory board, or even a full out attack by Al Queda on American Soil.

Please explain to the class why you are in favor of #3.

And for #6, which plan should congress be forced to accept. Last i saw there were hundreds of them.

#3 would largely entail congress no longer having other options of retirement outside of SS, and be limited largely to SS.  $$'s earmarked for SS be strictly for SS (recalling the lockbox references), and excess revenues that congress have, including that of retirement funds be dumped right into that "lockbox".  I love the concept, though realize the unlikelyness of such an event

#6 merely mandates that congress/President be limited to the same healthcare coverage Obamination Care would impose on the rest of us

Keep in mind Bt, I read these reforms as good ideas to draw on, not simply a campaign platform, to take as is.  The ignorance here is in implying that the status quo is just hunky dory, that reforms are either not necessary or unachievable

Just MHO

Were you in favor of Social Security reform as proposed by the Bush Admin?

Do you believe that healthcare limitations should be imposed by the feds or is it a private decision?

#2 mentions tenure. What Congressman or Senator has tenure? They may have seniority but they certainly don't have tenure.

Tenure can refer to time served which coincides with my uses of seniority.

It is more commonly used to describe a position from which an incumbent can not be terminated without just cause. as in academic tenure.

Elected officials can be fired by the voting public when they are up for re-election.

I fail to see why a representative should be punished for doing a good enough job for his constituency that he is sent back to DC on numerous election cycles.

Since it appears you oppose term limits for the Congress, I assume you also
oppose the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution?

The 22nd thwarts the will of the people doesn't it?

Does it?

What about this will of the people?

Nearly 8 in 10 American voters like the idea of imposing fixed time limits in office
for all members of Congress, incuding their own senators & representatives.

I really doubt this.

They are in favor of term limits in the abstract, but when it comes down to not being able to reelect a Congressman or Senator that they regard highly, then they are against term limits.

Who do we need a federal law for term limits, when states can pass them individually?
