Ron Paul
« on: February 12, 2011, 07:47:50 PM »
Folks, for the first time ever I will take a hard look at Ron Paul for president. It's entirely possible his time has come.

That's weird that you say that, because I've been thinking the same thing and almost posted it a couple weeks ago. I guess I first started taking a second look at Ron when his son was elected.

If there are others that think as us, and I'm sure there is, Mr Paul might have a chance. I no longer look at him as a crack-pot.

YAF kicks out Ron Paul
By: Byron Tau
February 12, 2011 07:10 PM EST

A prominent conservative activist group has given Ron Paul the boot.

The Young Americans for Freedom has voted the Texas congressman off its national advisory board in the aftermath of his straw poll win at CPAC over his positions on national security issues.

"It's a sad day in American history when a one-time conservative/libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with America's needs for national security then our current socialist presidential regime," said the group's national director Jordan Marks.

The dispute between Paul and the the group seems to stem from Paul's anti-war activities and the prominence of his supporters at conservative events like CPAC.

"Rep. Paul is clearly off his meds and must be purged from public office. YAF is starting the process by removing him from our national advisory board. Good riddance and he won't be missed," added Marks.

"I hadn't heard of YAF doing anything in years, I thought they were defunct. Young Americans for Liberty is the group of the future," said Ron Paul's political director (and in-law) Jesse Benton in an email to POLITICO.

Depends on Paul's definition of national security and defense. I'm willing to Liston to his POV. Defense is one thing, offense is another, and being able to do both is crucial; but fixing things at home is clearly something that should be tackled if this country is to survive.

I used to as well. My major point of disagreement with him was on Iraq, but now I've come around to his point of view because Bush won that war and it is time to let the Iraqis take over their own country.

At this point, there needs to be a major shock to the system. But it will probably come down to either Romney or Huckabee.

If it is either of those, third party here we come.

Romney or Huckabee are used toilet paper. We need someone bold and seemingly untypical. Ron Paul just might be odd enough to fit that bill.

Paul will never get the nomination. H ei a nice guy, but he is a crackpot. If he did get the nomination, he would lose the general election in a most spectacular way

You should be rooting for him then, Xo.  If he's as cracked as you claim he is

so if the realistic choice is between Romney or allowing Obama 4 more years to pack the Supreme Court. You are gonna take you your ball and go home and support someone with no chance. Further split the Republican vote block and guarantee Obama 4 more years to do huge damage? Sorry I dont get it.

I can understand Huckabee not getting much support, but what's the supposed problem with Romney, again??

What i do has no effect on the Republican Party. What the Tea Party folks do en masse will.

Do you honestly think they will not turn their backs on the party if the GOP  nominates a retread like Romney whose MassCare is not much different than ObamaCare and is already running at a deficit?

SIRS......I like Romney...is he perfect?....heck no....I am not sure yet if he is electable

But in my mind....once a real Fall campaign is in full swing Romney is a hell of a lot more
electable than a Huckabee, Ron Paul, or Pawlenty.

At this point I like Chris Christie the best and I am intrigued by the Daniels guy.

BT can talk all he wants about the Tea Party.....but if we nominate Ron Paul
I think Obama or Hillary would wipe the floor with Ron Paul....and I mean bad....it wouldn't even be close.
In my mind it is insanity to nominate a sure loser in the national election.
We got a guy on the ropes (Obama)....
Lets not blow it by nominating an extremist that will surely lose.

The tea party might not like Romney...
but if Ron Paul equals Obama nominating 2-3 more Supreme Court justices....I say the hell with that!

I didn't vote for McCain either. Nor did I vote for Obama. The only one on either ticket i liked was Palin.

But i made damn sure that GA was represented by a Republican Senator and my GOP congressman's seat was safe. Now that I am in Florida Bill Nelson will have to go.

I understand pragmatism. I also understand that during the primaries principle collides with pragmatism. I don't want an Ivy League Country Clubber  for president, nor do i want a social conservative telling me how to live my life.  So let's see how it shakes out. It's early and frankly it's no ones turn. let them slug it out to earn my vote
