I hate to say this, but since you think Russia is sooo great, why don't you go there to live?
I agree that his taking over Crimea was a popular move, and Crimea was never really Ukrainian, anyway. Most of the people were Russians, Tatars, and others. The Ukrainians have not managed to elect a competent government since independence. They elected a corrupt pro Westerner, who robbed them blind, then a pro-Russian, who did the same.
The Russians like dictators and oppressive governments. The US and others are applying the pressure to the Russian economy, and the ruble has lost half its value. Russia depends on oil and gas to maintain the economy.
The US has deliberately tried to make beggars of the Russians since 1991, and of course, the Russian people oppose this and back Putin.
I do not care what happens to Ukraine. It should not be a problem for the US.
