Axon Flex sounds a lot like Aeon Flux. The title made me want to see the film, but it was pretty dumb. There was no explanation why the girl wore a veil. There were lots of good reason why she would not have worn one in that society.

This seems like a pretty good idea.

SKF has been awarded the contract to supply the two giant main bearings and related technologies for Caesars Entertainment Corporation’s (NASDAQ:CZR) Las Vegas High Roller observation wheel expected to soar at the heart of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip in late 2013.  The 550-foot-tall wheel, eclipsing the famed 443-foot-tall London Eye, will be equipped with two SKF spherical roller bearings that will turn out to be the largest ever produced at the SKF manufacturing facility in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Caesars Entertainment has officially Linq-ed us into their plans to build a $550 million dollar outdoor mall open-air retail, dining and nightlife destination where Imperial Palace, O'Sheas and Flamingo are now.

The High Roller will soar 550 feet into the sky, some 107 feet taller than the famed London Eye, and will feature 28 cabins or pods. Each spherical cabin (another first for observation wheels) will hold 40 people and will revolve individually as the wheel itself rotates. i.e, if you get motion sickness this ain't for you.

I can imagine Aeon Flux wearing one of these , but hers would record illusions and lies just as well as actuality.

It is amazing that casinos spend vast fortunes proving their expertise at separating suckers from their money on nonsense like this wheel thing, and the suckers come in ever greater numbers, just for the fun of being fleeced.

They are experts at profiting from human weaknesses. No one does it better.

gonna have to sort of disagree. It`s not that people are suckers , it`s more like we give way more credit to humanity then we SHOULD .
until we accept we`re not that bright( I speak for all of us, live with it) then we`ll grow and improve.

The casinos take undue advantage of human weaknesses, just as heroin and opium pushers. If they were all closed down, it would be an improvement to society.

I don't think there is much chance that humans will evolve into superior beings that will avoid casinos. Advertising will always be able to lure fools into the casinos.

As I said, I have no opposition to gambling at home. It is the industry that is causes most of the destruction to people's lives.

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland, UK. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Named after the nearby town of Falkirk in central Scotland, the lift opened in 2002. The two canals it serves were previously connected by a series of 11 locks, but by the 1930s these had fallen into disuse. The locks were filled in and the land built upon.

The plan to regenerate central Scotland's canals to reconnect Glasgow with Edinburgh was led by British Waterways with support and funding from seven local authorities, the Scottish Enterprise Network, the European Regional Development Fund, and the Millennium Commission. Planners decided early on to create a dramatic 21st-century landmark structure to reconnect the canals, instead of simply recreating the historic lock flight. Designs were submitted for a boat lift to link the canals; the Falkirk Wheel-design won. As with many Millennium Commission projects the site includes a visitors' centre containing a shop, café, and exhibition centre.

The difference in height of the two canals at the wheel is 24 metres (79 ft), roughly equivalent to the height of an eight-storey building. But the Union Canal is 11m higher than the aqueduct which meets the wheel, and boats must pass through a pair of locks to descend from this canal onto the aqueduct at the top of the wheel. The aqueduct could not have been positioned higher due to conflicts with the historically important Antonine Wall.

The structure sits near the Rough Castle Fort; the closest village is Tamfourhill. On 24 May 2002, Queen Elizabeth II opened the Falkirk Wheel as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. The opening was delayed a month due to flooding caused by vandals who forced open the wheel's gates

The wheel has an overall diameter of 35 metres (115 ft) and consists of two opposing arms which extend 15 metres beyond the central axle and take the shape of a Celtic-inspired, double-headed axe. Two sets of these axe-shaped arms are attached about 35 metres (115 ft) apart to a 3.5 metres (11 ft) diameter axle. Two diametrically opposed water-filled caissons, each with a capacity of 80,000 imperial gallons (360,000 l; 96,000 US gal), are fitted between the ends of the arms.

These caissons (also known as gondolas)[3] always weigh the same whether or not they are carrying their combined capacity of 600 tonnes (590 long tons; 660 short tons) of floating canal barges as, according to Archimedes' principle, floating objects displace their own weight in water, so when the boat enters, the amount of water leaving the caisson weighs exactly the same as the boat. This keeps the wheel balanced. Despite its enormous mass, it rotates through 180° in five-and-a-half minutes using very little power. It takes just 22.5 kilowatts (30.2 hp) to power the electric motors, which consume just 1.5 kilowatt-hours (5.4 MJ) of energy in four minutes, roughly the same as boiling eight kettles of water.

Posted on August 24, 2012 in Apple, Samsung by Sean P. Aune

Brief summation: Apple has won on the majority of its claims, Samsung has not been able to prove any of its points against Apple. Many phones were found to have violated Apple’s rights, but the tablets were found to not infringe on the iPad. Apple has been rewarded damages of $1,051,855,000 (1 billion, 51 million, 855

It does not look all that comfortable, and if that egg part is filled with air, it would be susceptible to pointy objects like pencils and pens, spike heels and such.

More of a gimmick than a gadget. I would pass on that one.

On PBS there is a company that advertises the Aeron Chair that calls itself "sit for less" The price of their famous chair is "from $629", which does not sound like "for less" to me. They make a big deal of it being available in a color they call "True Black".

I do not consider a black chair to be innovative, and $629 is far too much to pay for any chair. There are cheaper thrones.

I have never been disappointed by any furniture that was less black than I expected.

A space elevator capable of shuttling robots or humans from the Earth to space remains decades away. But a company headed by a former NASA researcher says it can build a space elevator on the moon using today's technology.

The LiftPort Group wants to raise $8,000 on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter for its first step — creating a floating balloon platform tethered to the ground so that a robot can climb 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) into the sky. But the fundraiser also marks the return of a company that had closed during the 2007-2012 economic recession.

http://news.yahoo.com/space-elevator-project-shoots-moon-195012367.html

"About six months ago we had a fundamental breakthrough — a breakthrough we think will transform human civilization — and we want you to be a part of it," said Michael Laine, president of the LiftPort Group.

The breakthrough will allow the LiftPort group to build a space elevator on the moon using existing technology and a single-launch rocket solution that has "Sputnik-like simplicity," Laine said. He added that the concept could become a reality within eight years.
