There are perhaps reasons to oppose a person because of his religion. It all depends on what the religion teaches and how serious the candidate takes it.

It is unlikely that if Romney believes that ancient language writings can be translated into English with magical lenses or that special underwear is mandated by God, it will affect his decisions as president.

Unless, he decides to fund a magical translation lens project. THAT would be expensive and useless.
