I bet that lost a lot of its punch in translation.

I imagine that any president we can elect would have to deal with Egypt.

What is the better choice than to accept the election, the voice of the Egyptian people?

Oh so the translation was wrong?
The Muslim Brotherhood is just "misunderstood" ...is that it Plane?

Well duh....but there are different ways to "deal with Egypt"
Like stop sending billions of US Taxpayer dollars to a man advocating boycotts of the US.
Ok Mr. Morsi....why dont you put your Islamist ass where your mouth is and boycott US aid?

The Egyptian people elected Morsi. He probably still has more support than any other political figure in Egypt. If the US withdraws aid from Egypt, Egypt will be much harder to deal with, and Israel will have major problems.

Suppose the Egyptians get so pissed they overthrow Morsi and put someone more radical in power. Then Egypt cancels its treaty with Israel and Israel bombs Aswan and pretty much exterminates Egypt.

Imagine how hard that mess would be to clean up. Guess who would be funding the rebuilding of Egypt. Guess who would get the blame in addition to the Israelis.

The US has no alternative but to support Morsi and help him restore stability in Egypt, which desperately needs to get its tourism industry revenues back to where they were in the times of Mubarak. An Egypt that is stable will be better able to support itself, and will require less aid and will be less likely to attack Israel, as a large number of tourists to Egypt are Israelis, who want to track down the adventures of Moses and such.

What do were get if we cut off aid to Egypt?

Making CU4 happy is hardly a worthwhile foreign policy objective.

As long as Morrissi honors the terms of treaty we owe his government a lot of money.

Having an election doesn't change that.

But if he repudiates the treaty , we can let his government go to hell in its own way.

With perfect honor as far as I am concerned.

BTW referencing another thread, is American Aid a truely good thing for Egypt?

Egypt has a large and growing population and at present a very young population, of the sort that tends to overthrow governments and make a big mess when it does.

Why not ask "is foreign aid a good thing for Israel"?

Hmmmm...

Yes, but are we asking if it is good to make them dependant?

For both contrys it is a good question, but could there be seaprate answers?

It is good for the US to give aid to Egypt. The US does not give aid that is detrimental to its interests, at least not knowingly so.

The Egyptians do not have to accept it.

I don't think that Egypt gets the same sort of aid from the US as do Kenya and other Subsaharan countries. Not all of our aid is detrimental, but some of it clearly is poorly thought out, as your article suggests.

   Well.................

I am trying to imagine what it sounds like to an Egyptian.

I would bet that it is politicly harmfull to publicly express gratitude twards the U.S..

But they do seem to cash the checks.

Are our contributions buying influence on events or not?

As for the bang for buck rate , I have to guess we are getting a poor deal.

The people of Egypt do not have any sense of gratitude to the Americans for the aid we send. They do not request aid, nor is the aid seen as being to their benefit.

Do Americans feel gratitude to the Mexicans and Canadians (let alone the Kuwaitis) for their selling us their oil?

The US, along with others in the UN, helped move hundreds of ancient statues and buildings along the Nile to higher ground when the Aswan Dam was built and would have flooded Luxor and other ancient sites. These attract tourists, and tourists provide jobs for Egyptians. Our aid has kept Egypt stable, and has prevented war with Israel, which Egypt could have won, had they done it before Aswan was built.

Now Egypt cannot depend on a victory, since the entire country could be devastated with one bomb at the dam site.

Yes,but only enough to send cash in exchange.

[/quote]That is fixable , they ought to ask me , or some other student of history, how it has been done before.

Part of our aid is military equipment , training and cash.

The lessons of history will be interesting when now becomes history.

who cares what Egpyt does....they suck and have sucked for centuries.
they dont invent shit
they dont produce crap
like you state they dont appreciate our money
they are worthless
tell them to go to hell

Imagine how hard that mess would be to clean up.

Who cares how big a mess those losers get in...let 'em fend for themselves

Guess who would be funding the rebuilding of Egypt.

the US shouldnt....
if someone else wants to throw money down that rat-hole...be my guest

Guess who would get the blame in addition to the Israelis.

OMG.... the US and Israel would get blamed by Middle Easterners?
Well...I've never heard of such!
Wow what a major change that would be!

The US has no alternative but to support Morsi and help him restore stability in Egypt,
Oh baloney....the world will go on if the US tells Egypt we're done with your ass!
Go beg China for money.....
Why keep sending billions to people that hate us?
The hell with Egypt!

Sometime earlyer than we defund Social Security , we should reduce aid payments to Egypt.

We will do neither.

The consequences of not sending Egypt aid would cost a lot more than sending aid. You do not seem to undrestand diddley about the situation.

Enlighten me this , 40% of all this spending is on credit.

Is this debt never coming due?
