What the Don does right
« on: July 11, 2015, 05:49:49 PM »
Love him or hate him, there are some components to Trump running that candidates really need to embrace.  1st and formost....authenticity.  He doesn't come across as a politician.  He doesn't come across as reading off some talking point sheet, put together by a bunch of PC advisers.  He's up front with what he believes, and doesn't flip flop to which way the political winds are blowing at any given moment.  Much like Chris Christie.

Also....he doesn't care about sucking up to the "Establishment".  I mean, the GOP won this MAJOR election last go around, campagining on issues that really mattered, repealing Obamacare, a referendum on nearly every policy and exectutive action Obama pushed, and after they resoundly defeated the Democrats via the people's decision on that referendum, turned right around and ran from every Democrat criticising them for daring to try and run on what they campaigned on.  Trump would stick to what he campaigned on.

Just a couple of the issues that GOP candidates can take from the Don, that would go a long ways in improving their electoral chances

Those would not be aspects I'd consider that the Don does get right, although it does run in the direction of authenticity      8)

I see what you mean, the highly polished candidate is often as not a work of his handlers art. With Speechwriters , joke writers ,speech coaches , and valets , we don't get to hear their own words or even see their own choice in clothes .

I remember Al Gore having made his coaches famous , why do we vote for people like this?

The more polish , the more it is a hired staff and the money being represented.

Trump does not hire speech writers or PR people because he thinks is is smarter than they could ever possibly be.
To be any sort of effective president, a person has to be tactful and diplomatic and offend ad few people as possible. He is not effective when he reveals that beneath his rough, slovenly exterior is a total  asshole.

He matches the sentiments of the Tea Party very closely, except, of course, for the fact that he has bazillions of dollars and is greedy for more, and they are merely greedy for more, because, you know, "they got to much already".

No, that's not the prerequisate of a President.  I don't care how many people our Preisdent offends, so long as he's fulfilling the primary responibility of the President.  If you want tact, then run the State Dept.  Though given the previous SoS, that's apparently not important to not effoend there, either at this point.  Point being, being a good President has very little to do with tact or some perverse goal of offending as little as possible.  A good President is one who leads, despite who he might offend in the process

Name one great president that was as deliberately offensive as Trump.
Even Nixon did not come close.

Tact and diplomacy are a prerequisite for any politician in a democracy with a free press.

What YOU perceive as "deliberately" offensive, is clearly subjective.  Hell, EVERY GOP candidate will be perceived by you as being deliberately offensive.  Point is that tact & diplomacy may be prerequisates for a DIPLOMAT, not the President of the United States

Watch and see The Donald stumble and fail, precisely because he is a total egotistical asshole.
He is likely to bring the GOP down with him.

That is a bodacious thing.

Considering he's not my guy, and the point of this thread was to highlight that which the other candidates should focus on, you can stuff the ongoing derogatories aimed at anything and everything Trump.  They're next to meaningless here
