Palin does not qualify for me to vote for her. She is qualified according to the Constitution.

I do not accept that McCain is in any way a maverick, unless you mean the sort of guy who might wear a bolo tie to the country club.

What I meant is that is sort of the limit to his maverick-ness.

He is against torture.
Sort of.
If the CIA does it.
Maybe waterboarding.
But I am sure he is against thumbscrews.

Well they are just trying to establish brand.

McCain with his Maverickness

And Obama with his messianic THE ONE!!!

And just as we knew Ipana did not come with an invisible shield that would protect you from errant golf balls, we also take these marketing ploys with a grain of salt.

Obama is the one Black guy that sounds and acts enough like a White guy to not be confused with some backwoods preacher. Black preachers tend to sound and gesture in a way recognized by urban White people as backwoods preachers.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Charles Rangel, all sound like backwoods preachers to White folks. White folks who are not from the sticks will not vote for anyone of any hue that sounds like some backwoods preacher.

Obama doesn't. He sounds like a Midwestern college professor. It is in this way that he is The One. I don't think he promotes this image at all. But he does project it, which is not the same thing.

McCain mentions his 'Maverick' ways regularly. Palin is the Pom-Pom Girl of Maverickityness. A Whole Glee Club of Mavericity.

Neither can hold a candle to James Garner as 'Maverick', I am sure that the original cattle-rustling Maverick could not have even come close to filling the role.

He was against torture before he was for it just like his position on regulation.

He doesn't discourage it. Remember he is the blank screen upon which people project their views.

That was a very impressive performance by Gov. Palin. She knocked Joe Biden out cold.

I especially liked her shout out to teachers and all of the teachers in her family. She said she would make education a top priority of her Vice Presidential agenda, and she thought NCLB should be made more flexable. She definitely made a connection with the American people as a middle class mother.

I couldn't be prouder that I am supporting her.

You know what Rick? I feel the same. As long as someone on the ticket can sincerely stand up for the teacher,s/he is my candidate. I am disappointed iwth Obama for the simple reason that he sits dangerously close to the edge of the socialism table. Obama has made so many promises in his trip to the "house". He does have a gift for giving those in grief--hope.  I respect him very much. But, there's more to the issue than education reform (support). There is a bottom line in all of this,  we can not allow ourselves to slowly turn towards a that "state".

Palin is fantastic...bottom line.

So is McCain for that matter.

I can't wait for  election night results.

Muskie lost the nomination for Dem president for crying at the podium.

Does history repeat?

Biden cried Croc tears...and quickly rallied when he could see that the "nurturing" female on his left was not going to buy into those tears.....it was a joke. He was a joke. >.and Hell, I liked Biden once upon a time. I thought he had something to offer the country once upon a time. He's so insincere. Those tears will come back to haunt him. I didn't see the Muskie Mug when those tears were shed, but I can say this....I can read faces realllly well, and I can tell if one is a fake in a second.

I feel as though I just watched the Q&A part of the Miss Neocon Alaska Contest.

I'm sorry I missed the bathing suit competition.

She held up well but she didn't win the debate.

Biden was clearly the one who actually understood what he was saying, Palin was doing nothing more than reciting all the neocon verbage that she had crammed to memorize over the past 5 weeks.

She's a true pilgrim, ZO. ;)

"I do not accept that McCain is in any way a maverick"

I have to admit, I asked myself the same question.... why did she keep referring to him as a "Maverick"?

HE's a candidate running for the president on the Republican ticket. HE's not a Ronnie R.....he doesn't even fit the hollywood template.

But, he is a good man. I like his style. I think that Biden is also (in his own way) stylish....but Palin is the Maverick in the end.

Perhaps she will rope us all in, eventually. I think it's time for a kick ass Maverick woman to run this country..and Hillary lost me when she rebuked any sort of cookie manufacturing routine.

My god, men make better chefs than women. Hillary is like Biden. They are politicians in teh worst way.

Palin is like Mrs. Smith goes to DC.

I say, give her a chance. .. not because she is running along side a man who is  on the Rep. Ticket. . but because she is willing to represent the average American who fights against the status quo of greed....anyone who stands up against the  government as usual mindset...is worth a listen, and a chance. She's tough as nails and she's a rookie....MY goodness, I say give her a chance.

Yes .

If she were an expert on Washington she would be a wonk , like Biden.

She is intelligent , but unspoiled by the Washington games , so far anyway.

I don't think anyone expected her to be a policy and diplomatic expert , her appeal as an outsider doesn't work that way.

After she has been in Washington a few years , what will she become ?

A seasoned professional ?

She is a woman. She is not even the type of woman that is Hillary. She will never lose her ground, as I read her.
Hillary's ground was born on the hill. She has never looked down.

She fell in teh process.

Palin is a shining star on the horizon..but dare I say "star"? She's a kick ass, smart and straight forward human being. I work with women every day. I know women. Palin is as true and capable as they come.

I do not see her tainted or spoiled in any decade to come.

Plane, that's a good question.  I've often wondered about people who enter politics, bursting with ideas and energy, possessing a true desire to serve their country, and who are itching to change the status quo...but who realize that the system is so entrenched that there's just no way to be heard after they've been elected.  Or maybe they even think they can work from the inside, but then they fall into the ranks of all those professional politicians that we've come to know and loathe.

I almost thought Obama might be one of those who could break the mold.  Unfortunately, the system dictates that anyone who has a promising political future is immediately surrounded by a group of handlers whose own stakes are bound to be first and foremost in their minds.

Barack Obama and Sarah Palin both came to the attention of the country in the same way - via a dynamic convention speech. Palin's path led her directly from her speech into the ring. But between Obama's speech and his run for office, he's been groomed and coached, guided by polls, surveys, and the advice of his handlers. Obama's past working relationships and his mentor choices are questionable, and makes me wonder what the extent of outside influences have been on his stated positions, and if we are seeing the same man that stirred so much excitement after his speech four years ago.

I like Sarah Palin, and I think she's got a genuine desire to serve our country.  Given the circumstances of her nomination, she hasn't been processed through the politician factory system that turns normal people into polished party clones who nod in unison and mouth the same tired old partisan cliches.  I find the way she expresses herself to be refreshing and sincere.  She's intelligent and perfectly capable of making the transition from governor to Vice-President, just as she did when she became Alaska's governor.

Palin's personal ambition trumps her desire to do the job she was elected to in Alaska.

Do Alaskans a favor. Vote for Obama and let her finish her job.

No party has ever screwed up more than the GOP when they nominated Juniorbush and ran hios sorry stubborn lying warmongering ass twice. They had their chance to nominate McCain, Now he is too old. Palin would be a disaster as president.

End this war. End financial incompetence. End  Republican rule, because it SUCKS.
