It is not racist. The Convention is not open to the public, neither was the Republican Convention.\
Voting is a right of every citizen, guaranteed by the Constitution.
Attending a political convention is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution.
The entire country is free to watch it on TV. Noone could do this before 1952, as it was not televised.

My father was an usher at the Republican Convention that nominated Herbert Hoover in Kansas City in 1928. To enter the hall, everyone had to show a credential to get a ticket.
I still have several tickets, by the way.
