Obama is President of the United States of America
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:21:12 AM »
Yes, he is.

I think it's an historical moment in time tonight.....as Lincoln, Kennedy, and the likes of FDR were indeed worthy to have their own historic moment in the great book.

But, history books will only tell a tale for the time.

My gosh, indeed, for this moment.....I am glad to hear that Obama is going to see his day in history. For the sake of race. (sorry, but that's all I can celebrate in the world of politics). You're either in or your out mentality. Sadly, we don't meld together to form a more unified and workable government. Instead we fight, argue, stand tall on point..and take steps forward and backward. But, that is then nature of our gov.

This gives us all hope in a way, if you think about it.

It's a good day for the world, if the man in power can bring about the hopeful from all citizens of this nation.

But, I don't hold out much hope. .. sadly.

Bush was in the office for too long. I do believe he ruined the nation's hope. Sadly...
Barrack Obama must pull this one off...

but again, I don't hold much hope.

THere is, however,  a new man to show any race can lead this this nation.....he IS OUR FIRST. To be a part of history is so very awesome...that's the teacher in me. :)

God, this is a good day for the hope of a nation divided for too many years.

Here in Miami, people are honking up and down 7th Avenue and I-95.

Institutional racism is now behind us. Vietnam is now behind us.

Oh, the honks are to be celebrated...but, as I almost shed a tear when you say Vietnam is behind us....

DON't go there...Xavier...Not with me, anyway.

Vietnam Veterans will be our heros in heart for eternity..and by damn don't you forget that.

Please do not place any crushing blow sentiment in the direction of that war in any way. I can not tell you how many young men living and dead do NOT F**ING DESERVE that.

(in Cindy's serious mode)

But in the happy moment in time as I witness on the tube now...I am happy for Obama.

Let's not bring up the issues of the past, if indeed you want to flow chart through the new age of this century.

Honor is not the same as trashing the governmental bullshit artists of the past.

Wow - that wasn't even close! Absolutely amazing.

At the end of the day, I ended up liking McCain more than I ever thought I would in the beginning. He's a good man, and he gave a fantastic concession speech.

And to all of the "hell in a handbasket" folks who are mourning the win, just remember: you survived the Carter years - nothing can be worse than that.  ;D

The reactions here have been extraordinary. For the past few days, almost all channels being broadcast in the region (via satellite and local) have preempted their broadcasting just for American election coverage. For that matter, most companies have given permission if people want to come into work a bit late today, as most planned to sit up all night watching the outcome.

And I've hardly been able to go anywhere these past weeks without people asking me who I am voting/voted for.

The boy is doing great - he's in KG1 here (they have 2 years of Kindergarten), and speaking in English, Arabic and French fluently. Woo hoo! I should find him a tutor for Spanish and Mandarin before the window of opportunity for young learning of language is lost.

For proper acknowledgement, current misery idex at 8.01.  Carter's was 16.27, with a high of 21.98

No, no - clarification - I wasn't suggesting that Bush's misery index was equal to Carter's. I was saying that whatever happens in the next 4 - 8 years, even in the worst possible scenarios, everyone survived Carter - and THAT was bad.

For the record, I don't buy into anyone's disaster scenarios about an Obama White House, but a lot of people do.

The only connection I can draw between Bush and Carter is that I think the last time the nation demanded such a huge change was during the Reagan election that ousted Carter. But the reasons were different, I think - although I was only 10 at the time and don't really remember much of it.
